In the months to come the global economy is set to claw back some of the economic losses from the Covid-19 pandemic. The downside is that this may result in many organisations going back to ‘business as usual’ negating any opportunities for change created by the pandemic.

To avoid this scenario we are propose the introduction of Enterprise AI and Data Virtualization to businesses that are making their way along their digital transformation journey.

You are most likely aware of these two concepts, but I would like to share with you the unique capabilities of leveraging Enterprise AI and Data Virtualization with hybrid multicloud architecture.

Many of the largest tech companies are trumpeting their AI and Machine learning capabilities which on the one hand is justifiable, however the breadth of product offerings is usually confusing and does not allow integrated management of increasingly complex and growing data science teams. Enterprise AI is the natural step for large organisations with diverse teams and delivery requirements as it centralises all data science fields and builds the intellectual capacity of the business by supporting the building of shared workspaces and pre-built algorithms to reduce duplication, speed up collaboration and productisation.

The second factor to consider is the adoption of hybrid multicloud architecture. The growth of on-premise and multiple cloud platforms creates additional complexity for accessing and managing data.

By using Data Virtualization as the single access layer for all organisational data you are able to create a true data fabric. This has the benefit of making teams more efficient, facilitates better collaboration, save costs and supports your data governance requirements. I won’t go into data quality or data cleansing that this stage but just note that with poor identification of what constitutes the ‘truth’ your results will be sub-optimal.

What I have discussed is not a conceptual framework, but one that is being effectively used by large organisations in their digital transformation drives. The challenge is that digital transformation is not simply about the application of new technology but about creating a more intelligent organisation where transformation delivers better value to your internal and external customers.
